| Keyboarding

Students will learn the touch system for the alphanumeric keyboard using correct keying techniques. They will learn to format documents and proofread while producing business and personal letters, display work and reports. Communications and appropriate work habits will also be taught. Students will be offered opportunities to examine leisure activities and the use of leisure time in the St. Thomas Region and around the world. They will examine types of vacation experiences and potential locations in many major Canadian and international tourist centres. Since many students can expect employment opportunities related to the tourist industry, this course will provide a foundation of knowledge for such a future. Slides, movies, guest speakers, field trips and even food will make students more aware of each region being studied. |

This course is designed to promote an understanding of how the past has influenced the present through an examination of world affairs between 1900 and 1945, as well as specific case studies of selected nations in the post 1945 era to the present. Students will develop an understanding of the effect of technology on warfare through a study of World War I & II. This course will consider the effect of both individuals and events on our daily lives. Topics include Nazism, Nuclear War and Communism will be discussed to provide an understanding of global change. The emphasis of the course will consist of specific case studies in World Affairs and the Global Village through the use both written and audio visual resources. |
