CAP Information
What is CAP?
The Community Access Program (CAP) was created by the government in order to ensure that Canada can become one of the most connected countries in the world. CAP provides the PUBLIC with FREE internet access, as well as training on various internet subjects. Feedback on which particular subjects you would like training in, is always welcome.
There are many CAP sites within the city of St. Thomas, and the county of Elgin. Go to the Links section to see them all.

During these hours anyone, and any business is welcome to come in an use the room to explore the limitless possibilities of the World Wide Web ABSOLUTELY FREE!
We are located at the Adult Learning Centre, on 10 Ontario road in St. Thomas. The centre has 24 pentium computer stations available for use, at a T1 connection (translation, we're really fast!). We have 24 computers at our disposal, so you will never have to wait in line here. The CAP room is located in room 140 in the Adult Learning Centre (it's the 3rd door on your left when you come in). There is always a capable staff person on hand to handle any difficulty or question that you have.
Our CAP site aims to raise the awareness of the Internet to everyone. The Internet offers limitless possiblities, and we're here to ensure that everyone has access to those possibilities. Being located in a learning environment we are committed to teaching the critical skills needed to use the internet. We are also committed to helping people find employment. We have a partnership with Job Connect* , and a strong knowledge of internet job resources.

1. Use of the Internet
Use of the Internet is free at the Adult Learning Centre CAP site. We do, however, request that you respect the wishes of other users in the room. We also request you respect of future users by limiting your Internet time to a reasonable slot (30-45 minutes if the site is busy, 1 hour to 11/2 hours if not).
2. Printing
Printing costs are 10 cents per page. See the CAP site facilitator present to obtain your sheets before you print.
3. Scanning
There is no scanner is the actual CAP room, but there is a scanner located in the Adult Learning Centre. With special permission access may be granted.
4. Training/Cyber Camps
Training and Cyber Camps will be posted when they become available.
1. Please sign up before every use, this is important for statistics. The more use we get, the better we can attain, and keep government funding.
2. Users May:
Access computers for the express purpose of creating documents and working with curricular software in an individual environment
Use software that has been purchased & licensed by the TVDSB or CAP
May use data disks that have been brought from home if they have been virus scanned
Access only the files for which they have been granted permission
3. Users May Not:
Modify other students, participants, or teachers files
Install software (NO NAPSTER!)
Use software other than mentioned above
Use impolite or abusive language, in the room or when creating documents or files
4. Internet Access
The purpose of providing internet access is to support research, personal or business, e-commerce, and educational research outside of the rooms local area network. This access is a privilege and can be taken away if inappropriate activity is found to be taking place.
A. Users May:
Use the internet to send appropriate email to others
Use the internet to explore APPROPRIATE resources:
B. Users May Not:
Use the internet for any illegal purposes
Use impolite or abusive language
Violate the rules of common sense and etiquette
Change any computer files that do not belong to the user
Send or retrieve any copyrighted materials without permission
USERS MAY NOT LOOK AT MATERIAL OF AN ADULT NATURE!
5. Violations
Violations will result in the suspension of privileges and/or the removal from the room
